Conan the Adventurer Season 1 Review

Conan The Adventurer

Now my knowledge on Conan is quite limited, but as I've stated before, this series deviates greatly from the novels.

I can imagine that this series is what old school He-Man fans would say the “New Adventures of He-Man” should have been, but more on that later.

So I don't know what I was expecting, but I must say that so far with Season 1, I am very pleased with what I see.

Take everything you know about Conan and throw it away. Trust me, you'll enjoy the show so much more. Conan the Adventurer follows the Cimmerian Conan, who has made it his duty to take down the bad guy who turned his mom, dad and grandfather to stone.

The show begins with a 2-parter to give us a good taste of the tone of the overall show. Now let me just say that we are in a world of muscle men. I love that trope. Just about every male character could compete in a bodybuilding competition. Conan himself goes from Muscle teen to Muscle man in what seems like a day. Damn Conan, even steroids don't work that quick!

So our story begins with Muscle Teen Conan and his grandfather running from falling meteors. One lands and glows purple, The cimmerians take a liking to it so they forge it into what they call Star Metal and create weapons with it. With the Star Metal, These weapons will never break. The weapons are sold but the best one (a sword) is left for Conan. Unfortunately for Conan, he can not have it until he is strong enough to lift the stone slab that covers it in a crypt.

We. Cut to our main bad guy Wrath-Amon. We are clearly taking cues from He-Man with these names. Wrath-Amon (Wrath Among). He learns that Star Metal can open portals. To other dimensions. He plans to release Set, an evil giant snake from his Abyss so that he can rule Earth with the humans as slaves.

Long story short, He finds Conan's Family and turns them to stone, thus setting Conan off on his quest to free his family from this curse and destroy Wrath-Amon.

So that's the general setup, now for the stuff you came here for.
I was fully ready to review Captain Planet, but I must say that I'm glad you guys picked this one. It's actually a pretty good show.

Muscle:

With this show being Conan, you know we are dealing with a world of Muscle Men. Some episodes have Conan fully clothed which is disappointing, but the still offer a good amount of beefcake action.
Each of our main male characters are ripped and they all have there own share of peril scenes. They are also racially diverse, which is awesome (although the art style of Season 1 doesn't make it too clear just by the characters facial features).

Characters:

All of the men are likable and different enough to where they don't feel like clones of Conan.
Our female lead Jezmine can jump off a cliff. God she's annoying.
All of the Men will get their spotlights in future posts and videos.

Fetishes:

So far in Season 1, not too many, but what's here pops up often.
Humiliation
Muscle Man Degrading
Bondage
Hypnotization
Drowning
Ass Shots
Tentacles
Bearhugs
Whips
Chains
Poisoned
Grappling and Fighting
Torture

I think from now on I'll be doing single episode reviews. It'll be easier that way.

Comments

  1. So glad you're liking the series! As I mentioned in a previous post, it's one of my all-time favorites. Although it was only a couple seasons long, the overall narrative has an epic conclusion!

Season 2 also has some great episodes. Conan goes up against an Asian warrior who's twice as tall and muscular as he is, and Conan also gets bearhugged by a giant golden statue of a muscular serpent man! :)
