She-Ra Overview

Some may find it weird that I'm talking about She-Ra before He-Man. Thing is, I knew I wouldn't like She-Ra as much so I started with that.

So this website will be specifically discussing the fetish appeal of a show when it comes to muscles, men in peril and feats of strength. This is not a review of the overall quality of the show, although I may give an overall synopsis.

She-Ra is the sequel series to He-Man. Giving a woman the spotlight, you would think that this would be "Totally Spies" of the 80s when it comes to fetish feul. Unfortunately for fans of females in peril and female ryona, that's not necessarily the case. She-Ra herself barely gets caught off guard and her binding scenes are few and far between. Usually when She-Ra does get caught, she frees herself without a struggle. You can tell that the animators at filmation aren't having as much fun animating women in peril as compared to men.

The damsel in distress of the show is a purple haired woman named Glimmer. While she gets caught quite a lot, her capture scenes are neither exciting or all that creative. They are, however better and more exciting than She-Ra's since Glimmer can't usually escape on her own.

Now on to what this website is about, the men. Since She-Ra has a lot of Female characters, you only get one human male main character and that's Bow. To make up for the huge lack of muscled men, nearly all of the male townspeople are modeled after He-Man. So big muscles bursting out of their shirts.

Bows outfit is more conservative than He-Mans. Only exposing is toned arms (which are slightly leaner than other muscled characters) and his ripped abs. His shredded thighs and firm buttox fight the fabric around them, so that's nice. Bows peril scenes are the most exciting and the most well made, especially since his muscles are just for show. When the villains get the best of him, it's a real treat seeing as he usually struggles to no avail.

A good handful of episodes feature a male ally (that is usually a one shot character) that needs the help of the main crew. The ally is usually buffed and roughed up by the villains. One guy even received clothing damage.


He-Man himself appears in a good number of episodes and those are shiners. The first five episodes of the series which were also compiled into a movie have He-Man in ultimate peril many times. Such a shame that it didn't become a staple of the She-Ra series.

Overall I would give the show a 6 out of 10 on the fetish factor. The art really holds this one up, because the show is increadibly tame compared to its male counterpart.
